On March 29th, the culmination of years of hard work came to pass. The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Apprentice Training Center held its official ribbon cutting with top labor leaders, the Governor, members of the Governors cabinet, elected officials, and policy leaders in attendance. Governor Phil Murphy and U.S. Representative Frank Pallone were just some of the distinguished guests who gave speeches in the facilities 250+ seat auditorium. The weather did not put too much of a damper of the festivities as the large crowd that gathered in the auditorium made their way outside to witness the cutting of the ribbon. Afterward, some tours were given and there was some socializing over refreshments while standing in this 100,000 square foot beacon of the NRCC’s commitment to training.

The building itself, which has already been open for apprentice training, has all the modern amenities and more importantly it has all the things necessary to train the future of Union carpentry. All the classrooms have cutting edge A/V equipment, there are 14 welding booths, a fully-equipped mill-cabinet shop, an overhead bridge crane for rigging steel concrete forms, and that large auditorium that hosted the ribbon cutting ceremony. It’s easy to see all the tangible things that this building offers, but what is important to not overlook, is all the intangibles it provides to young, driven future journey-level carpenters. Governor Murphy announced at the ribbon cutting ceremony the creation of the New Jersey Apprenticeship Network which will further the NRCC’s commitment and help pave the way for New Jersey residents to have a fulfilling career as a Union carpenter.
